Edris House, designed in 1954 by architect E. Stewart Williams: PS ModCom Iconic Home Tour

This Valentine’s Day, we invite you to take a step back in time and fall in love with a midcentury masterpiece: the Edris House, designed in 1954 by architect E. Stewart Williams.

Set on a steep rocky slope of the San Jacinto Mountains, the house is a striking example of Desert Modernism, a style that values crisp lines, simple forms and a close relationship with the surrounding landscape.

Williams designed the house with strong horizontal planes, deep overhangs for shade, and expansive glass walls that frame breathtaking views of the desert below. Inside, warm wood tones and a neutral palette anchor the house to its rugged surroundings while embodying the era’s vision of comfort and Modern elegance.

Remarkably, the Edris House remains completely original—preserved just as Williams designed it in 1954—offering a rare and authentic glimpse into midcentury architectural excellence.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Edris House is a rare opportunity to experience one of the best-preserved architectural masterpieces that define desert Modern living.

The Palm Springs Modern Committee (PS ModCom) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the appreciation and preservation of Desert Modern architecture and design. We achieve this through education, advocacy for threatened buildings, promotion of heritage tourism, and the celebration of successes in preservation and adaptive reuse.
