Montevideo is the capital of the South American country Uruguay. Montevideo Modernism is a multi-day event of symposia and tours of Modernist architecture in and around Montevideo scheduled for April 2026.

In dialogue with lectures of visiting architects from Europe and the United States, such as Le Corbusier and Richard Neutra, locally born and educated architects, who also traveled abroad, created remarkable Modernist residences and commercial buildings.

Montevideo is treasure trove of Modernist buildings from the 1930s–1970s that are little known outside of Uruguay. Montevideo Modernism is committed to raising awareness of the city’s architectural legacy to an audience larger than the academic and professional communities.

Presenters are David Coffey of Bakersfield Built and SAH/SCC Board Member, designer Pablo Muñoz, Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseno y Urbanismo at Universidad de la Republica Uruguay, and architect Soledad Cebey.
