Step into the world of Modeline of California—the brand that first developed and popularized the biomorphic minimalism style in lighting that we now call “Midcentury Modern.” In this presentation, Nick Ferrell shares materials from his new book Modeline of California: Pioneer of Modern Lighting (Schiffer Publishing) and lays out the case that Modeline of California was not just responsible for first developing Midcentury Modern lighting, but that much of the current modern lighting trends find their roots in Modeline’s work.

Founded in 1946 by Bernie and Esther Roberts, Modeline of California was a nonconformist from the very outset. Born out of the most violent union clash in California history and ultimately brought to an end by Muhammad Ali, the history of this midcentury modern lighting pioneer is as fascinating and unusual as their charming wooden lamps.

Whether you are already a Modeline enthusiast, just getting into Midcentury Modern lighting, or are simply a lover of forgotten history, this presentation is one that you will not want to miss.

The presentation will be followed by a Q & A and book signing.
